Psycho-cybernetics

by Maxwell Maltz

psycho-cybernetics: book cover

I simply cannot recommend this book highly enough. It will change your life—if you read it carefully and do the exercises honestly.

There's no good lying to yourself; you can't hide!

If you invest in nothing else that I recommend on this site, RUN to the store and buy this book NOW!

The "cybernetics" part of the title comes from the analogy of a (self)guided missile: before a guided missile is launched, it is given a target to lock onto (i.e a goal). That target may move, as in the case of, say, another fighter plane, and this requires the missile to correspondingly adjust course. However, completely irrespective of whether the target/goal is dynamic or static, the point is that when the missile detects it is "off-target", it corrects its course so to bring itself back on target.

This is what we need to (learn to) do to in order to consistently succeed by design at ANYTHING in life. I repeat: ANYTHING.

Sure, dumb luck can play a part, but re-read the previous paragraph paying special attention to the  phrase "consistently succeed by design"; that's the key!

Now, the problem is we've all got various things that regularly send us "off course" (or "off target") and we need to be able to

(a) identify these things, and
(b) know how to circumvent them to get back on target!

If we can't do that, well... "Success... sayonara!" You'll just end up drifting through life from one thing to the next, with that sense of frustration building and building and building. Do you really want that? Or would you rather learn how to change that forever?

No brainer, huh?

There is also an audio version, which is great to listen to in the car, or to rip to MP3 for your daily commute. I would recommend getting this and the book; not just the CD alone. This audio version should be like revision—once you've done all the exercises in the book.

P.S. The same "run don't walk" advice applies to:

Just get them, read them, and do the exercises honestly.

You will never be the same again. Here's to your success!
